When I have dieted in previous years, it has always taken a few days for the hunger pains to kick in. The post-Christmas detox spans a few days and I've plenty of lumber to burn off, but imagine by the weekend I'll suddenly find myself dealing with that awful empty feeling. Being back at work after the festivities certainly helps as daily routine shapes your day, rather than sitting around with easy access to bad stuff.
That said I was confronted with chocolate by a well-meaning colleague earlier today, and the offer was politely declined. I am very much an all or nothing kind of dieter. Cut out everything or don't cut out at all. I'm not counting calories but if I was I know I could have afforded that little chocolate, but it would likely have led to another. Cutting out snacks altogether is my modus operandi; it takes an awful lot of willpower but needs must.
I enjoyed a chicken and mushroom stir-fry for my dinner this evening. Really don't know why I don't eat this more often. So easy to prepare and a giant plate of food comes with very little calorific content. Think this will become a regular addition to my weekly menu.
Booze is strictly off the menu in January. A dry month at the start of the year makes sense anyway, but holding off from wine and beer help kick start a diet. My new baby son is due 11 February, and that occasion will be marked with a celebratory tipple at an appropriate moment. Setting little targets like this is helpful for keeping to your goals. If you know when your reward is coming, you can focus on being good in the mean time.
